Continuing to implement a de facto boycott of Turkish goods, Saudi Arabia broke a record in exports to Turkey.
According to the news compiled by Sözcü from TUIK data, Turkey’s exports to Saudi Arabia, which rose to $ 3.2 billion in 2019, decreased to $ 189 million in the January-November period of 2021.
Turkey’s imports from Saudi Arabia, which were 1.9 billion dollars in 2019 and 1.7 billion dollars in 2020, rose to 3 billion dollars in the January-November period of 2021, breaking a record.
So Turkey had a high foreign trade deficit of $2.8 billion against Saudi Arabia.
Chemical products made up the bulk of the imports from Saudi Arabia with 2.7 billion dollars.
Gulf countries, especially Saudi Arabia, and Egypt lifted the political and economic embargo against Qatar, which has been going on for 3.5 years, in January 2021. Trade between Saudi Arabia and Qatar has also resumed.
However, the de facto boycott against Turkey, which supported Qatar and sent soldiers to this country during the embargo period, did not back down.
The Gulf countries were asking Turkey and Qatar to stop supporting the Muslim Brotherhood.
The murder of journalist Cemal Khashoggi at the Saudi Consulate building in Istanbul, on the orders of the Saudi administration, also increased the tension in the relations between the two countries.
