Ayse Mayda, known as Turkey’s first female orthodontist, passed away this morning in a private hospital in Izmir, where she was treated.
The death of Mayda, who is the most well-known dentist in İzmir and has included many conferences, donations and social awareness events in her life, saddened her fans.
It has been stated that Ayşe Mayda’s funeral will be buried tomorrow after the noon prayer at the Hacı Ahmet Tatari Mosque in Konak district.
WHO IS AYŞE MAYDA?
Ayşe Mayda was born in Izmir in 1916. Starting Ravza-i İrfan Primary School in Konak, Mayda continued her education at İzmir American Girls’ College. Mayda went to Istanbul for university in 1937 and enrolled in the Department of Dental Medicine at Istanbul University. Making great contributions to the development of dentistry and orthodontics in Turkey until 1945, Prof. Dr. Mayda, who was the assistant of Alfred Kantorovicz, made important and successful studies especially in the orthodontics department. After living in Istanbul for 9 years, Prof. Dr. Ayşe Mayda, who started working in the field of orthodontics as well as dentistry in İzmir with the document given by Kantorovicz, served in the field of dentistry and orthodontics until 1983.
